Tijuego Street Art Bike Tour

Instead of spending the weekend inside watching cartoons, our friends, SEZIO and Set & Drift decided to organize a rad street-art-bike-tour for San Diego and Tijuana on Saturday and Sunday. So for god’s sake, set your TiVo to record Yo Gabba Gabba this week and get out there on your bikes. We highly recommend.

TJ Ride // Saturday, July 31 // 1:00 pm
Meet at the gates on the South side of the pedestrian border crossing in Colonia Federal. After-party at Pop Diner starting at 4pm

…SD Ride // Sunday, August 1 // 11:00 am
Meet at Urban Outfitters, Hillcrest by the OBEY mural
The ride will conclude at MCASD Downtown at 2pm
After-party at Super El Camino in Little Italy at 4pm

As you may or may not have taken record of, most of the TMY team took a vacation up the coast of California. Our apologies for the stale blog … we left our laptops at home and took a break from the second life.

So, just for you, we created a little video of our tour up the California coast and compiled a playlist based on our favorite in-car songs.

The Dropout Economy

TIME Magazine Just published it’s 10 Ideas for the Next 10 Years issue and Reihan Salam‘s piece, ‘The Dropout Economy,’ hits on all the right notes. It’s a great article, I’ve read it probably 5 times now. I encourage you to read it at least once. Respect.

“…what if the millions of so-called dropouts are onto something? As conventional high schools and colleges prepare the next generation for jobs that won’t exist, we’re on the cusp of a dropout revolution, one that will spark an era of experimentation in new ways to learn and new ways to live … the millennial generation could prove to be more resilient and creative than its predecessors, abandoning old, familiar and broken institutions in favor of new, strange and flourishing ones.”

… It will be Chatrouletted. If you haven’t played with Chatroulette.com yet… prepare to be freaked out as you are randomly connected with chatters across the world – boys, girls, perverts and all. Forget the days of A/S/L. Could this be the dead end of the human interaction? Or perhaps, in the future, a tool for anonymous communication… a sort of underground word of mouth? Anyway, imagination aside, Casey Neistat recently published an entertaining, crafty explanation to this new cyber-trend. Oh and one more thing, if you are planning on checking out Chat Roulette just make sure to try and avoid ‘Peak Masterbater Hour’ which, from my experience seems to be… all the time…

High School Bike Bus

For far too long have the jocks with the nice cars been praised at High School. Whether it be the class of ’69 jock pulling up in his black Camaro, the class of ’84 cheerleader standing next to her red Mustang 5.0 or the or the class of ’01 basket ball star rolling up to school in his Hummer; no longer do these symbols of class impress us. It was cool for a long time, but now? That’s why this story really made my day.

The student initiated bike club rides every morning and picks up its members, just like a school bus, so that they can all ride together. A teacher from their school adds, “This club is definitely ‘the thing’ to do at the school right now. The school is located in a district where a lot of people ride out of necessity, so I can’t say cycling was a cool thing before. I would say many people saw people riding and associated it with the poorest members of their community. The club is changing perceptions among the students for sure. Additionally, these kids understand that they are changing perceptions about Orlando as a cycling city and they are all over it.”
